Latrell Mitchell could miss the remainder of the season, with the superstar Rabbitohs fullback suffering a quad injury as the club's crisis deepens.

The 28-year-old, who got through the recent State of Origin series unscathed, went down at the South Sydney captain's run on Thursday and will miss round 20.

The club have since confirmed that Mitchell will miss at least the next month of action.

"Mitchell was set to return against the Panthers after being rested last week following State of Origin," Nine's Luke Dufficy said on Thursday night.

"It has been revealed he has picked up a significant quad injury during the warm-up at captain's run today. Our cameras captured Latrell being worked on by a Souths trainer.

"He will have to wait for the full results from scans, but the club says that he could be sidelined for at least three to four weeks."

Mitchell will join the likes of Cody Walker and Campbell Graham in the growing casualty ward at Redfern, while skipper Cameron Murray hasn't played a game all season.

With the struggling Bunnies all but out of finals contention, there could be a cautious approach surrounding their marquee man with eight rounds remaining.
