'Hope it's not missing a diamond': Cameron Smith left red-faced after epic NRL grand final stitch-up

Cameron Smith was stitched up in epic and hilarious fashion on Thursday night after cameras caught the Storm legend dropping an NRL premiership ring.
The champion hooker tasted glory on three occasions - plus another two that were stripped for salary cap breaches - during his career with Melbourne, meaning he would have no shortage of the expensive and coveted piece of jewellery at home.
But that didn't stop Smith from getting a close-up look of what the winning players will end up donning should they come away with the win on Sunday night.

The only issue? Smith couldn't keep the ring in the box and it almost ended in disaster.
As he started tilting the box prior to Nine's Grand Final Countdown airing on live television, the ring dropped out of the box and onto the desk inside the studio.

Smith luckily caught it before it fell to the floor, but that didn't stop host James Bracey from pulling out the footage once the show went to air.
"They are a treasured item and the players are fighting for it on Sunday," Bracey said.
"You just wanna hope though ... whoever ends up with that one on Sunday night, I hope it's not missing a diamond or two.
"The cameras are always rolling, you should know that."

The live audience burst out in laughter as Smith was left red-faced, before offering an apology to the two players who could potentially end up wearing the ring.
"It's gonna be Jahrome Hughes or Adam Reynolds, it's got a No.7 on the side of it," the former Maroons and Kangaroos captain said.
"Boys, I'm sorry."
Melbourne and Brisbane will headline an enormous day and night at Accor Stadium, with the State Championship Final and NRLW decider also scheduled.
