Huge Dolphins blow as full extent of Jeremy Marshall-King's foot injury revealed

Jeremy Marshall-King may play again this season, but the Dolphins will be without their star hooker for the next two months in another massive blow.

The 28-year-old injured his foot during the first half of his side's round 17 loss to the Dragons, with fears he could be ruled out for the remainder of the year.

Marshall-King went for scans in the wake of the defeat, which confirmed the dummy-half has two fractures in his foot.

The club confirmed Marshall-King will miss the next 8-10 weeks of action, placing him in line for a return just before the finals.

"This is not the worst news we could have had today," head of performance Jeremy Hickmans said in a statement.

"Jeremy will require surgery, but with no Lisfranc injury it appears he is well in the frame to play again this season."

The latest setback for the Redcliffe-based club comes as they begin to slide down a hotly-contested NRL ladder following recent losses against the Dragons and Storm.

Wayne Bennett's side are already without Tom Flegler and Tom Gilbert for the remainder of the season, while star fullback Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow injured his shoulder during his recent State of Origin appearance for Queensland.

Marshall-King's absence will likely see rising star Max Plath earn first crack at the No.9 jumper, with fellow utility Kurt Donoghoe suspended for three games for a high tackle.

The Dolphins will have the bye in round 18 before taking on the Rabbitohs on July 11.
