'Guess it's not meant to be': Club legend Jamie Soward dumped by Dragons amid NRLW struggles

Club legend Jamie Soward has been shown the door by St George Illawarra as the NRLW side struggles for a second-straight season.

According to a report from The Sydney Morning Herald, the 39-year-old was informed by chief executive Ryan Webb that he wouldn't be retained beyond this year.

At this stage, it's unclear whether Soward will see out the rest of his contract.

Despite a resounding win over the Eels last weekend, the Dragons are sitting in eighth spot and look likely to miss the finals for a second-straight campaign.

Soward has been at the helm since 2021 and took the Red V to a grand final appearance in his first year, before a semi-final exit in 2022.

However, with the expansion of the competition last year, the Dragons lost a plethora of high-profile players and Soward's side have struggled for results.

Soward posted a cryptic message on social media on Monday afternoon, alluding to the news of his impending exit from the club.

One of the joint-venture's most beloved players, Soward led the Dragons to a 2010 premiership, ending a lengthy drought, while also representing NSW at Origin level.

There has been no indication regarding Soward's replacement as head coach.
