Ezra Mam is set to be slapped with a nine-match suspension after being handed a breach notice by the NRL over the league's code of conduct.

Last week, Mam pleaded guilty to driving with a drug in his system, after a two-vehicle crash in Brisbane's inner west on October 18.

The 21-year-old also entered a guilty plea for driving without a licence.

He was hit with a $850 fine and his license was disqualified for at least six months.

Now, the NRL has hit Mam with its own sanction, declaring his actions have "brought the game into disrepute".

"The breach notice alleges that Mam has engaged in conduct which is against the law and has brought the game and his club into disrepute," the league's statement read.

"In accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the RLPA, information concerning the NRL's proposed sanction will not be disclosed until the player has had the opportunity to respond to the alleged breach and the matter is finalised."

As per the NRL's collective bargaining agreement, the league's governing body will not reveal its proposed sanction until the Broncos five-eighth has had time to respond.

Several media outlets have reported that Mam's penalty from the NRL is likely to be a nine-game suspension.

The usual time frame given for such incidents is five business days but because of the public holidays over the Christmas period, the process will likely be completed in January.

Players can apply to have representative matches counted towards their ban, including the pre-season All Stars fixture - with the likes of Josh Addo-Carr and Latrell Mitchell the most recently accepted applications by the NRL.

However, for Mam, it has been reported a potential request will not be accepted as he has never previously featured in the representative fixture.

It is expected the suspension will be solely served with the Broncos.

If the five-eighth accepts his reported nine-game ban, he will be ineligible to return to action until the Broncos face South Sydney in round 10.

Mam was involved in a head-on crash while driving his ute in Brisbane's west.

He struck an Uber, injuring a child and a woman.

The 21-year-old failed a roadside drug test before being detained. He was tested again, which also brought up a positive reading.

During his court hearing, Mam's actions were condemned.

"Having made that stupid decision to get behind the wheel of the car, and using illicit substances as well … a cocktail of cocaine and other matters that were found in your blood on this particular occasion," the magistrate said.

"At so many levels you are fortunate to stand where you are today given you were involved in a two-vehicle motor accident.

"You could've been injured or killed or the other parties could've been injured or killed."

Following court, Mam declared he was "truly sorry" for the hurt his actions caused.

"Today is an important step in owning my actions and starting to make things right," he said.

"To all the people involved in this accident, I'm truly sorry."
