'Not heard a thing': Roosters in the dark as Rugby Australia hunts Joseph Suaalii's signature

The Roosters have "not heard a thing" from Joseph Suaalii after Rugby Australia's $4.8 million play for the prodigy, according to Nine's Danny Weidler.

The development follows Weidler's report which stated Rugby Australia was \ for 2025, despite the possibility of a last-minute play from Roosters chairman Nick Politis.

"Suaalii is expected to make an announcement on his future shortly after receiving huge offers from both sides," Weidler told 9News Sydney on Friday.

"Joseph Suaalii has not yet signed with Rugby Australia. They believe it is close but it's definitely not signed.

"It is my understanding that Suaalii is meeting with his inner sanctum and has been this afternoon to decide on his future.

"But when there is about $4.8 million plus on the table, it's going to be hard for the 19-year-old to say no to rugby."

The boom youngster is contracted to the Roosters until the end of 2024, but Rugby Australia hopes to secure his services in time for the British and Irish Lions tour the following year.

Suaalii was a schoolboy rugby star who met with former Wallabies coach Dave Rennie in 2021before electing to begin his professional career in the NRL.
