Montoya ruled out for rest of NRL season

Canterbury centre Marcelo Montoya has been ruled out for the rest of the NRL season due to a knee injury.

Montoya will be sidelined for up to three months and won't take the field again this year after he was diagnosed with tears to his posterior cruciate ligament, lateral ligament and medial meniscal ligament.

The club said he would have surgery and could require a reconstruction on his left knee.

"The results of the scans will see Montoya require an arthroscope to repair the lateral ligament and medial meniscus and at that time the surgeon will also assess the PCL and make a call on whether it requires reconstructing," the club said in a statement.

The Fijian Test representative has made 44 NRL appearances for the Bulldogs since debuting in 2017.
