Reynolds ends Manly's finals hopes

Josh Reynolds scored a wonderful golden point try to essentially end Manly's hopes of a finals spot.

The try came deep into the second half of extra-time when Reynolds decided to run the ball on the last.

He spread it wide and Sam Perrett put in a kick that took a cruel bounce through Tom Trbojevic's legs, sitting up perfectly for a hard-chasing Reynolds.

The try came on the back on a raft of missed field goal attempts as well as a disallowed extra-time try to Reynolds in the first half of golden point.

The Bulldogs' five-eight saw his try controversially overruled or an apparent push on Daly Cherry-Evans in the lead up to the try.

Bulldogs' skipper James Graham was singing his five-eighth's praises after the match, saying Reynolds was the reason he loved to pull on the club's jersy.

"Some people think he's a villain, but he's a hero to me," Graham said.

"He epitomises what playing for the Canterbury Bulldogs is all about." 

The match had ended 16-16 after fulltime.

Manly skipper Jamie Lyon missed an 80th-minute penalty goal, from a Sam Kasiano ruck penalty, that would have kept the visitors' slim playoff hopes intact.

The Sea Eagles were the better side for much of the contest but missed a number of field-goal attempts in extra time as the Dogs held their composure.
