The South Sydney Rabbitohs' pre-season has been given a major boost with Latrell Mitchell reportedly cleared to make a full return to training.

Mitchell has been sidelined by a hamstring injury since last August, but has since made a full recovery and will be ready for the start of the 2021 season, barring any unforeseen circumstances.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Mitchell will make a return to non-restricted training next week on a quest to make the No.1 jersey his own.

The injury came at the worst possible time for both Mitchell and Souths, with the young gun just beginning to hit his straps after a rocky start to the season.

News of Mitchell's continued progress comes after he made an early return to the training field in the first week of December, partaking in light field drills.

"It's great to see him back out there and moving around," Souths assistant coach Jason Demetriou told Wide World of Sports.

"He has been spending a lot of time working on his farm in Taree and that has cleared his head and also been great for his body.

"He looks in good shape and it is probably his best off-season in a few years, despite the injury. He hasn't had to contend with rep footy at the end of the year and a short turnaround and he is very keen and fresh."
