Broncos big-man Josh McGuire is reportedly set for a lucrative move up north as the Cowboys continue their post-Thurston era rebuild.

The Daily Telegraph reports, North Queensland are poised to sign the Kangaroos forward on a $3.2 million contract which could see him call Townsville home for the next five years.

It is understood the Cowboys have been in covert talks with the Broncos over McGuire in recent weeks in a move which could see an immediate northward trip for the enforcer.

Brisbane are reportedly reluctant to release the experienced 28-year-old forward, but relinquishing McGuire could free up valuable salary cap room to secure their up and coming stars into the future.

NRL.com reports the McGuire has already informed his teammate of his departure.
