Johnston key to Inglis five-eighth move

Alex Johnston's emergence as a ball-playing fullback has made possible Greg Inglis's move to five-eighth for South Sydney.

Inglis led Souths to their first win in five NRL matches at pivot against Parramatta and the move to the front-line is likely to be a permanent one for the representative superstar.

A move to fullback for former Kangaroos winger Johnston has been on the cards ever since his debut NRL season in 2014. And Inglis has played a key role in that.

"It has been more of a process over the past three years and Greg has been helping me and tipping me at training and through the pre-season," Johnston said.

"'Madge' (coach Michael Maguire) has helped out a lot too. It is mostly about learning the positional work and giving me more time there.

"I have always wanted to play fullback, I enjoyed every minute of it and can't wait to play some more.

"The catch and pass is something I have tried to add to my game and is something I have focused on at training for sure."

Inglis believes Johnston has a big future in the Rabbitohs No.1 jersey.

"He has got great feet, he has got great hands and he has got great awareness," Inglis said.

"AJ is still learning, he is still 21, he has a big future ahead of him."
