NRL news: Parramatta Eels star Jarryd Hayne suffers injury during Sharks clash

Powered by

Parramatta star Jarryd Hayne is facing an extended period on the sidelines after leaving the field injured during his side’s clash against Cronulla.

Hayne reportedly suffered a hip flexor injury from a restart and was in obvious discomfort, with the fullback hobbling around the field until it all became too much him.

The cross-code star eventually left the game ten minutes out from halftime and was clearly upset as he made his way up the tunnel.

Fox Sports commentator Andy Raymond said Hayne experienced pain after a kick-off.

“Jarryd Hayne kicked the ball off a restart and immediately felt his right hip go.

“He initially thought it was his groin but a hip flexor, a very different type of injury.

“Just spoke to the Parramatta Eels medical staff and assistant coaching staff and they say it’s a very significant injury and Jarryd they’re not expecting back tonight.”

Parramatta abandoned their dual-fullback experiment and moved Jarryd Hayne to fullback for the Sharks clash..

After back-to-back defeats - including last week's 54-0 humiliation at the hands of Manly - Eels coach Brad Arthur shifted Hayne to his favoured spot in search of some much needed spark in his side’s backline.
