Queensland star Greg Inglis is in danger of missing the rest of the State of Origin series after suffering an ankle injury in South Sydney's clash with the Warriors.

The South Sydney fullback faces six to eight weeks on the sidelines after twisting his ankle when making a tackle late in the second half.

Inglis slipped into a tackle on Manu Vatuvei, before his right foot got caught underneath the combined weight of the Warriors winger and team-mate Sam Burgess.

The rep star managed to limp off the field but did not return to the field for the second half. He is expected to undergo scans on Sunday.

Inglis was set to line up at fullback for the injury-hit Maroons in the second game of the series on June 18 with incumbent Billy Slater in doubt with a shoulder injury.

Queensland will name their squad for Origin II on Monday. The final game of the series is on July 9 at Suncorp Stadium.
