Manly Sea Eagles icon Grant Goldman dies aged 69 after lengthy cancer battle

Iconic Manly Sea Eagles ground announcer and radio great Grant Goldman has died aged 69 after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Goldman was a familiar voice around Lottoland having held the ground announcer's role for 35 years.

The tragic news of his passing was announced on Friday by radio station 2GB, just one of the many stations his voice once graced.

"Some really sad news this morning. Radio great and long-time Sea Eagles ground announcer Grant Goldman has died, aged 69," 2GB announced via Twitter.

"The broadcaster passed away last night after a lengthy battle with cancer. Our deepest condolences to his family and friends."

The Sea Eagles also shared their condolences for the rugby league icon.

"We were saddened to hear of the passing last night of iconic Sea Eagles ground announcer Grant Goldman after a lengthy battle with cancer," the club Tweeted.

"Grant was our ground announcer for 35 years. Our deepest condolences to his family and colleagues."

Goldman was also the voice of Sydney Trains' automated announcements for more than a decade during the 90's and early 2000's.

Sydney Trains expressed their veneration for the great over Twitter and explained his voice can still be heard on their network.

"We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Grant Goldman, who was the voice of our automated announcements for more than a decade during the 90's and early 2000's," they Tweeted.

"Millions of our customers grew up listening to his warm and reassuring tones at our stations and trains, and Grant's voice can still be heard on the network for important safety announcements."

Goldman is survived by his wife, six children and three grandchildren.
