Sharks hooker Michael Ennis has joined the shocking kicks hall of shame after badly shanking a drop-out punt against the Dragons.

Ennis was left red-faced when he wildly blazed a drop-out kick towards the sidelines midway through the second-half of the round 12 clash.

The former Bulldogs' attempt failed to even make the 10-metre line, bouncing out across the sidelines and handing the home side a penalty.

Ennis stood on the goal line in disbelief as the Channel Nine commentary laughing compared the blunder to another Australian's nightmare punt.

"That was the same as James O'Connor the other night in that rugby match," Ray Warren said.

"There been a couple of misses lately," Peter Sterling laughingly replied.

Reds star O'Connor looked ready for the ground to swallow him up after his miscued 69th-minute kick from behind his own tryline travelled 10 metres to rival halfback Stefan Ungerer in Queensland's 21-14 loss to the Sharks.

While NSW halfback Trent Hodkinson produced another stunning miscue when his penalty kick found a Maroon rather than the touchline in game one of State of Origin.
