The son of Knights legend Matthew Johns is on the verge of breaking into the NRL with the Melbourne Storm.

Storm coach Craig Bellamy last night elevated Cooper Johns, just 19, into the club’s NRL squad.

The youngster, who has been in great form for the Storm’s feeder club in the Queensland Cup, the unbeaten Sunshine Coast Falcons, may well get a start in the top grade before the Origin period ends next month.

At just 77 kilos, Johns is a jockey-sized halfback but has shown an ability to read the play and break the line for Sunshine Coast.

His older brother Jack is also a player of promise, having represented Italy at the 2017 World Cup.
