Chambers, Munster cop first NRL fines
Melbourne duo Will Chambers and Cameron Munster are the first to cop fines under the revamped judiciary system, following separate offences in Friday's season-opener.
Chambers was slapped with a grade one contrary conduct charge for his punch on Canterbury forward Sam Kasiano late in the first half of their clash, which ended with both players sin-binned.
Kasiano escaped a charge for his role in the incident, which began when the Bulldogs prop held onto the jersey of Storm halfback Cooper Cronk and ended in Chambers flying in from afar.
"It's brave taking on big Kasiano. It might not be very smart. It was good to see other guys backed him up," Storm coach Craig Bellamy said after the match.
Munster has also been hit in the pocket for his trip of Josh Jackson in the second half - with an early guilty plea to discount the $1500 fine to $1100.
The financial hit means both players are free to take their place in the Storm's round two clash against the Warriors next Saturday.
The Storm's other centre, Cheyse Blair, also picked up a grade one dangerous throw charge but can escape a one-game ban with an early guilty plea.
The NRL introduced monetary punishments for a variety of grade one offences earlier this year in order to avoid players being suspended for minor infringements.
