Shot clock beats Broncos at Auckland Nines

Jordan Kahu has landed plenty of clutch conversions that have won crucial matches for Brisbane but unfortunately that wasn't the case at the Auckland Nines.

Staring at a 15-0 deficit at halftime in their quarter-final against the Sydney Roosters, Kahu had already covered himself in glory after nailing a conversion from the sideline.

Fullback Darius Boyd then played a hand in a length-of-the-field try but came up with an absolute shocker of a conversion attempt that would have helped close the gap.

Brisbane set up a grandstand finish after Sam Lavea scored to reduce the margin to 15-14 with Kahu only needing to land the conversion to send the Broncos through to the semi-finals.

Unfortunately while his kick sailed between the uprights, he failed to beat the shot clock and the Broncos' Nines campaign came to a heartbreaking end.

"I'm pretty devastated at the moment about it all," Kahu said.

"Obviously the last moment kills the buzz for me. I'm pretty disappointed. 

"You're used to a couple of minutes when you kick and the 30 seconds starts as soon as you score. It's pretty short. 

"I just thought I got it away in time but obviously not."
