Broncos back-rower Jordan Riki faces ban for crusher tackle, Tevita Pangai Junior and Tyson Gamble each cop fines

Broncos back-rower Jordan Riki is facing a stint on the sidelines after he was charged for a crusher tackle on Manly's Haumole Olakau'atu.

Riki, who is also facing a $1600 fine for making dangerous contact to the head on Morgan Harper, currently faces a two-three game suspension for a crusher tackle.

Four players during Brisbane's 50-6 loss to Manly last night were sent to the sin bin as part of the NRL's crackdown to reduce the number of players suffering concussions and head knocks each round.

While Riki faces a ban, his teammates Tevita Pangai Junior and Tyson Gamble can both accept fines for separate high shots.

The NRL's crackdown on high shots also saw four players sent to the sin bin during the Wests Tigers' win over Newcastle.

Tex Hoy, Joe Ofahengaue, Lachlan Fitzgibbon and Moses Mbye were all issued with marching orders from the referee.

The eight incidents left NRL icon Andrew Johns bemused, as he issued a warning over the new world order to the rest of the competition who are yet to play this weekend.

"I can imagine all the other NRL players up here are watching Magic Round, you're on notice," Johns said. Any ill-discipline or any knocks around the head you're going to go to the bin."

"I know they're cracking down on it, but it just takes the contest out of it. We've got to be very careful because the game is so fast, tough and physical that there are going to be accidents.

"Gone are the days were the good old stiff arm, where blokes would smash each other in the face, that doesn't happen anymore. But understand, under fatigue, people in desperation trying to stop a try, naturally, an arm is going to come up. It's going to have some teething problems. Eight already after two games?"
