Blow to Cronulla captain Paul Gallen's fight over 'c--t' tweet

Paul Gallen has suffered a major blow in his bid to overturn a $50,000 fine for an abusive tweet after the Sharks announced they wouldn't be supporting his challenge.

Gallen was slapped with the hefty fine and handed a provisional Test ban after lashing out on social media in the wake of Steve Noyce's exit from Cronula."Steve Noice (sic) actually cared about the players from Cronulla's feelings. Couldn't say that about any other c--- at the NRL," he tweeted.Gallen was on holiday at the time and is believed to be considering an appeal on the grounds that his 'c-bomb' was misinterpreted and that he is merely guilty of swearing.

"It's unbelievable - I've got to fight it," Gallen told News Corp earlier this week.

"The last time I didn't fight something (the ASADA ban) I regretted it, I will this time.

"How can they justify it? Blokes get fined $10,000 for an assault. Others have been arrested and not been fined anything."

His hopes, however, have taken a major hit with Cronulla chairman Damian Keogh revealing the club wouldn't be funding an appeal.

Keogh told Fairfax media that many Sharks fans “would be sacked” for calling their boss a 'c--t'.

Gallen is currently serving a 12-week ASADA-imposed anti-doping suspension along with Sharks teammates from the 2011 season.

News Corp had on Sunday reported that Gallen was suffering depression, but at a press conference on Monday to promote an upcoming boxing bout he refused to detail any specific problems he had.
