NHL player scores amazing goal

An ice hockey player may have claims to the goal of the season after slamming home a hurdling, backhanded shot in the National Hockey League.

Buffalo Sabres centre Tyler Ennis found himself in a near impossible situation when he bore down on goal against the Montreal Canadiens.

Receiving the puck from a quick turnover in the first period, Ennis moved raced down the right channel before cutting inside to attack the goal.

But the moved looked to be the wrong choice as the Canadiens’ goalkeeper hit the ice, blocking Ennis from his route to goal.

However, the 25-year-old showed some impressive manoeuvrability to knock the puck past the keeper, hurdle the custodian and then, incredibly, slap a backhanded shot into the goal.

The amazing play inspired the Sabres to record a 2-1 win over their Canadian rivals.
