NHL player accidentally spits on rival

An NHL player has been caught accidentally spitting on a rival team’s support staff – and his reaction was priceless.

Toronto Maple Leafs goalkeeper Jonathan Bernier was sitting on the bench during the clash with the Tampa Bay Lightning when he felt the need to spit.

Footage from the Leafs’ clash shows the goaltender spit out onto the ice, but in a case of horrible timing, a member of Tampa Bay’s support staff skates past and is oblivious to being hit by Bernier’s saliva.

Bernier’s reaction is hilarious as he shows his surprise momentarily with an open mouthed expression before bowing his head in embarrassment.

The 27-year-old felt so guilty about the incident that he reportedly contacted the Lightning staff member who he spat on and gave him a signed hockey stick.
