An ice hockey goalkeeper showed "spectacular" acrobatic skills when he made an incredible spinning save to deny a certain goal in the NHL.

Nashville Predators keeper Carter Hutton came to his side's rescue when they were desperately holding onto a 4-3 lead late in the match against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Footage of the incident shows Hutton making one save before immediately being called upon again as the puck is fired back at goal and deflected beyond the custodian.

Making a mockery of the slippery conditions, Hutton flings himself 360 degrees off one foot and slaps the puck away with the back of his stick.

A teammate then comes to the aid, finally steering the loose puck away from the danger zone and preserving the winning margin.

Predators coach Peter Laviolette told Yahoo! Sports it was a “spectacular” moment which saved his side.

"It looked like it was earmarked for the back of the net, and then it wasn't in the back of the net,” he said.

“So something spectacular happened, I guess.”
