It would have been one for the record books but the Kansas Chiefs made it - just.

The NFL team was in danger of missing its clash with the New England Patriots when its equipment was sent to New Jersey instead of Foxborough, Massachusetts.

A container of bags holding the shoulder pads and helmets for roughly 35 Kansas City players was not unloaded from the team's plane on Saturday and was accidentally sent to Newark, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Chiefs spokesman confirmed that some of the gear was sent to the wrong place and had to be rushed to the stadium.

The Kansas City Chiefs needed a police escort to get their equipment to Foxborough, Massachusetts, in time for Sunday's game against the Patriots.

The Massachusetts State Police provided an escort to help get the equipment get to the stadium on time.

If the equipment had not arrived by the time the game started, the Chiefs would have had to forfeit, according to Schefter.
