Brice receiving praise after netball win

Expect to see more of super sub Katrina Brice after the rising star turned the tide in Super Netball's clash of unbeaten sides.

Veteran coach Julie Fitzgerald produced a mid-match masterstroke when she injected Brice in place of England international goal shooter Jo Harten and the Giants rallied from a four-goal halftime deficit to beat hosts Sunshine Coast Lightning 55-54 in a Saturday night thriller.

Driven by mid-court dynamo Kim Green, the Giants benefited from the extra height and physical presence of 196cm Brice who landed 17 of her 19 shots despite the fierce defensive pressure of Geva Mentor, Erena Mikaere and Karla Mostert.

The 22-year-old was previously dominant in the second-tier Australian Netball League and made the most of her opportunity as the Giants (4-4) moved three points clear atop the ladder from the Lighting and Queensland Firebirds.

Brice admitted the Giants were getting drawn into a physical battle, unsuited to her teammates, before she came on.

"We needed a stronger target and that's what I provided," Brice said.

"I do my job at the end of the court and score the goals."

Lightning's superstar Diamonds shooter Caitlin Bassett landed 45 goals from 47 shots and was well supplied through the work of midcourters Laura Langman and Kelsey Browne.

Green became so influential as the game wore on that the Lightning were forced to move Kiwi centre Langman to wing defence, blunting their own attack.

Langman conceded Brice's introduction was the turning point of the match.

"She really injected herself into the game," Langman said.

"She's a fantastic target, she took some great ball and gets up there for rebounds."

One positive for the Lightning was having Langman and Australian international Stephanie Wood back in their side after foot and knee injuries respectively.

"I felt very rusty but I'm so grateful for the opportunity to be (playing), it beats sitting in a hospital bed I can tell you that," Langman said.

"(Wood) was great. She opens up C-Bass (Bassett) just beautifully and her touch on the ball is a real strength."
