Break for Super Netball 2019 competition

Super Netball's 2019 season will have a unique mid-season break to tie in with next year's World Cup in England.

In 2011 and 2015, the trans-Tasman competition in operation back then started earlier than usual in February and was completed before the World Cup tournaments in those respective years.

However, the third season of Australia's domestic competition overlaps with the World Cup, which will be held from July 12-21 in Liverpool.

The 2018 edition starts on April 27 - the same weekend as last year.

The first nine rounds will be played from late April to June 23, with competition suspended over the following four weeks.

Any Super Netball players participating in the final won't have much time to savour a win or get over a loss, as the competition resumes just six days later on July 27.

After the last five rounds, the semi-finals have been scheduled for August 31 and September 1, the preliminary final on September 8 and the grand final on September 15 - three weeks later than this year.

Many of the world's best players from outside Australia will play in Super Netball before joining their respective countries for the World Cup.

England, who shaded Australia by one goal in this year's Commonwealth Games final on the Gold Coast, could benefit the most.

They will have will have eight players spread across several different franchises.

Netball Australia executive general manager of events Chris Symington said the Super Netball break would provIde the governing body with extra time to ensure the schedule was the best fit for players, clubs, officials and fans.

"Given the unique nature of the 2019 netball year, balancing athlete availability across the Suncorp Super Netball season, the Samsung Australian Diamonds team and other international representative teams has added an element of complexity," Symington said.

"We have worked closely with the Netball Australia performance team and Super Netball clubs to ensure the Super Netball timeline we've established caters to all stakeholders."

Super Netball athletes, who aren't participating in the World Cup, will continue to train within their respective clubs during the competition's hiatus.
