Ryan won't give up on chasing elusive win

Adelaide Thunderbirds coach Dan Ryan hasn't given up hope his side can pinch one more win over the final month of a horror Super Netball season, which sank to a new low with a 51-48 loss to the NSW Swifts.

In less than a quarter, the Thunderbirds - chasing their first win since the opening round - frittered away a commanding 16-10 lead against an inexperienced Swifts outfit in the midst of a six-game losing streak and missing skipper Abbey McCulloch and deputy Paige Hadley.

Ryan admitted the fadeout was unacceptable, as have been the side's performances all season, but he is refusing to throw in the towel just yet.

"I won't give up on this team and I won't give up on the hope of another win for us," he said.

"It's the only way forward.

"It's definitely not good enough but this is the team that I have for 2017 and we're not going to give up hope of getting another win on the board."

Ryan admitted Adelaide's nightmare campaign - on the back of last year's wooden spoon - has not been befitting of the club's proud history.

The Thunderbirds started with a bang, making six straight grand finals and have claimed four national titles (1998-99, 2010 and 2013).

"This is a successful club that is used to winning netball matches," he said.

"The success and the results haven't gone our way over the past couple of years and it's not OK.

"It's not what the Thunderbirds are about.

"It's a bitter pill to swallow as a coach when you're losing more than you're winning but that's the job and you've got to be prepared to take the good with the bad.

"We'll do whatever we need to do to make sure we're a force (again)."
