Netballer Ingles pulls pin on Diamonds

Australian netballer Renae Ingles has put family first and opted out of playing for the Diamonds in 2018/19.

Ingles, 32, the wife of Utah Jazz shooting guard Joe, had made a whirlwind return to the top echelons of the game after initially retiring in early 2017.

She linked up with the Melbourne Vixens in Super Netball this season and was then selected for Australia.

But Ingles, the mother of twins, has concluded it would be too much of a commitment to go beyond playing for her Super Netball team.

"It was an honour to be named in the initial squad last month, but I know the commitment required to be a Diamond, especially ahead of a World Cup and, I don't believe I can commit 100 per cent when my family comes first at this point in my life," she said.

"I'm excited to be putting the Melbourne Vixens dress on again in 2019 and, I want the time away from Vixens to be with Joe and the kids.

"The decision wasn't easy but, I'm so excited to get on a plane to Salt Lake City with the family and have some down time before preseason starts back in Melbourne."

Capped for Australia 67 times, Ingles is one of Australia's most decorated netballers, winning gold at both the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and Sydney 2015 World Cup.

Husband Joe has gone from strength to strength in the NBA and will soon start the second year of a four-year deal with the Jazz believed to be worth around $A16 million a season.
