More imports sign up for Super Netball

Imports will make up 26 per cent of the 2019 Super Netball rosters, after defending champions Sunshine Coast Lightning signed a third African player for next season.

The final ten-player rosters of all eight teams were released on Thursday.

Every club has signed at least one foreign player, with imports up from 17 this year to 21..

They will be drawn from seven different nations with England leading the way with eight.

Lightning on Thursday announced they had snapped up 186cm South African goalkeeper Phumza Maweni, who this month played alongside established Sunshine Coast defender Karla Pretorius in the Proteas team in the recently completed Quad Series.

Sunshine Coast have also signed Ugandan shooter Peace Proscovia.

Maweni replaces England veteran Geva Mentor, who has joined Collingwood and was one of three significant losses for Lightning.

Star shooter and Australian captain Caitlin Bassett joined the Giants and midcourter and new Diamond Kelsey Browne moved to Collingwood.

Lightning's international contingent also includes New Zealand midcourt ace Laura Langman, who was part of their 2017 title-winning squad, but didn't play in the 2018 competition.

Perennial battlers Adelaide have filled half of their roster spots with overseas players..

Their recruiting drive landed the highest profile newcomer to the competition in top New Zealand shooter Maria Folau.

Thunderbirds, who have finished bottom in both of the first two years, winning one game across those seasons, have also signed English trio Beth Cobden, Layla Guscoth and Chelsea Pitman, plus Jamaican defender Shamera Sterling.

Bassett and Browne apart, another Diamond to switch clubs was shooter Caitlin Thwaites, who moved across Melbourne from Collingwood to the Vixens.

The Magpies' revamped roster includes Mentor, Browne and two new shooters in former Diamond Natalie Medhurst and Jamaican Shimona Nelson.
