Former Australian star Renae Ingles is making a shock comeback to the court after signing on for the Super Netball season.

Ingles, 31, has returned to Victoria with her husband Joe after his Utah Jazz team were eliminated from the NBA playoffs by Houston.

She has signed on with Melbourne Vixens as a training partner, but could play soon as the team deals with injuries to Chloe Watson and Jo Weston.

Only a day after returning from America with Joe and their twin children Jacon and Milla, Ingles played in a Victorian Netball League game.

Vixens coach Simone McKinnis says she can see how desperately the midcourter wants to play again after last appearing for the Adelaide Thunderbirds.

Ingles announced her retirement after the last Super Netball season to look after her children as Joe's basketball career continued to skyrocket in America.

The next NBA season doesn't get underway until October, with the Super Netball finals finishing in August.

"She still loves the game and still wants to play," said McKinnis.

"She's just got so much experience and she's fit and strong and raring to go, so we invited her in to train and she's rapt about it, and so are we."

Ingles said it was an honour to play for Melbourne again

"I've been so excited just to get home to Melbourne to be with my family and then the opportunity came up to come in and train with the Vixens which to me is just a dream come true," Ingles said.

Ingles has played 160 top-flight netball league games and 67 for Australia.
