Harten working to ensure finals longevity

Giants Netball goal attack Jo Harten is balancing her playing duties with a 'mini-pre-season' behind-the-scenes to ensure she can deliver in her new four-quarter role through to the end of a potential Super Netball finals series.

Harten has been playing full matches at goal attack after an experiment earlier in the season went well, but it was a big change for a shooter used to a lifetime of breaks through positional change.

"It's a work in progress," she said. "We are building towards finals, building towards the end of the season and just trying to balance the both of keeping fresh but making sure my legs can make it."

While Harten was adamant the side is not guaranteed a finals berth just yet, she was proud of the way her side closed out a threatening Swifts 66-56 on Sunday.

"You don't think about (finals) during the game, but we'll look at analysis this week and be proud of that - to step back up when someone has approached us is awesome," she said.

"They came back at us and we knew that was going to be the case - they chipped away but we seemed to be able to stay composed and extend our lead back out."

Giants coach Julie Fitzgerald generally refuses to single out individual players but is certainly not shying away from her side's success.

"It's what it's all about to be able to win those tight matches and be able to stick to your game plan and maintain your composure - no matter what they throw at you."

"We really want to stay in touch with (competition leaders West Coast Fever) - it really leaves our destiny in our own hands and if we can keep winning we can stay in that top two."
