Fever eyeing off club's greatest success

West Coast Fever have their sights set on a first Super Netball decider on home soil as they continue to chase the club's greatest success.

Fever secured their place in the finals on the back of a strong 68-55 win over Melbourne Vixens at Perth Arena.

The result was set up by a tremendous first half, especially with their defensive pressure.

West Coast will enter the final round atop the ladder with 70 points from 13 games - with a Saturday night meeting against the Giants in Sydney to come.

In 11 Commonwealth Bank Trophy seasons as the Perth Orioles, they never played finals and had a 32-122 record in nine ANZ Championship campaigns - the Fever only having played one final and an overall 42-74 record (two draws).

It is quite an achievement for them to be guaranteed a finals appearance and a chance of earning home advantage throughout the knockout stage of the competition.

"It would mean the world (home final). I've been part of this club for so long and we've fought really hard to get where we are," Fever coach Stacey Marinkovich said.

"We have to go one game at a time and we've got one more to go to get that locked away.

"The Perth community is phenomenal and the atmosphere here is the best that I've seen.

"I can't wait for us to keep building what we've got."

The 13-goal loss was hardly what Vixens coach Simone McKinnis was after with the Queensland Firebirds breathing down their necks.

They likely will need to beat the second-placed Sunshine Coast Lightning next week and hope for other results to go their way to earn a chance to improve on last year's semi-final exit.

"They certainly put us under really good defensive pressure and I don't think we played smart enough against it," McKinnis said.

"We weren't going for the depth we needed and we weren't letting the ball go but that comes back to the pressure they were putting on.

"We've got to get past this now and move on and look ahead to next week.

"There's still a game to go and I have no idea what it all looks like or means or anything like that, but we'll just be focusing on trying to get the win."
