Silver Ferns win netball's Nations Cup

Noeline Taurua has orchestrated another triumph for New Zealand on England soil after the netball world champions beat Jamaica 67-55 in the final of the inaugural Nations Cup.

Six months after tasting World Cup glory in Liverpool, the Silver Ferns dominated the four-nations tournament in London, which also involved England and South Africa.

World No.1 Australia chose to bypass the tournament to give their players a full off-season break.

Silver Ferns coach Taurua took plenty from her team's unbeaten efforts, which also allowed her the chance to blood inexperienced players in key positions.

From her World Cup squad, she was without captain Laura Langman and Katrina Rore (both resting), along with Casey Kopua and Maria Folau (both retired).

The biggest find was goal shoot Maia Wilson, a 22-year-old who replaced Folau with aplomb.

WIlson was named player of the match in the final after landing 44 of 47 shots.

Jamaica was more competitive in the decider than when they lost by 26 goals to New Zealand earlier in the tournament.

The Sunshine Girls overcame an early deficit to draw level 30-30 at halftime before a dominant third quarter pushed the Silver Ferns clear.

An under-strength England pipped South Africa 65-63 for bronze.
