Attack a work in progress for Giants

Not even a month into their stint together, the Giants Netball attacking line is showing signs of becoming a force to be reckoned with.

The Giants' skill and experience across the court was on display in their clinical 66-51 Super Netball defeat of West Coast Fever in Sydney on Saturday.

But it is among the scoring trio of superstar veteran Susan Pettitt, Australian squad member Kristina Brice and England representative Jo Harten that the side's vast capacity is most vivid.

Pettitt and Brice were involved in the Australian Diamonds' Quad Series win in South Africa and England, which finished on February 5, and only joined with Harten for a couple of weeks of pre-season work.

Yet, such is seamlessness with which they have found each other's rhythm and style, they have left coach Julie Fitzgerald space to experiment.

"Most of our players have only had two weeks together, particularly that attacking line," Fitzgerald said.

"That's why we expect that there will be improvements as we get into the season. We've got a lot of versatility down there.

"Our combinations are only new and we can only get better. Our aim is to be a little bit better every game we play. Our understanding is certainly developing but it's got a long way to go."

Fitzgerald shuffled around her attacking trio against the Fever, playing Harten for a half before bringing on Brice in her place.

She then re-introduced Harten to the game for the final quarter. Harten finished with 29 goals from 34 shots, Brice 22 from 24 and Pettitt scored 15 goals.

"The three combinations we have as shooters are all so powerful in our own right and have different strengths as a combo," Harten said.

"We were up at halftime and Julie wanted to make that change and see how Prats [Pettitt] and KB go, which is great.

"It's good moving forward into the comp, that we've got both who are threatening defensive lines."
