Aussie driver Greg Gartner was lucky to escape unscathed after a spectacular flip during the opening Stadium Super Trucks race at the Sydney 500.

Competing in his Ford 150 at Homebush Street Circuit, Gartner came unstuck on a jump in dramatic fashion.

The Penola former came out of a corner and hit one ramp cleanly but veered out of control as he landed before hitting a second jump sideways, which sent his truck into a full mid-air rotation.

The vehicle then landed on the driver's side before sliding into a safety fence and bouncing back onto its tyres.

"Wow. Olympic Park you just saw one of the narliest crashes we've seen here at Stadium Super truck history," said one of the commentators.

"I'm lost for words on that one. That was a really narly crash. Hopefully Greg is in good shape."

Fortunately, Gartner was okay and remarkably continued racing to finish eighth in the practice session.
