Tyre-changing race driver risks life and limb

Changing a tyre at the side of any road can be a risky move, so spare a thought for this race driver.

Competing in the 24 Hours Nurburgring event in Germany, the driver was forced to pull over mid-race when his Mercedes lost a tyre.

Knowing a tow back to the pits would mean automatic disqualification, he jumped out of his car and ran back down the side of the track to retrieve the tyre.

Risking life and limb as rivals flew past at around 200km/h, the driver then proceeded to try and repair the damage.

Unfortunately, his valiant attempts to continue were all to no avail and he eventually had to be towed home.

But at least he avoided being cleaned up by another car. Talk about a high stakes move.
