Trackside vid shows amazing NASCAR speed

Watching motorsports on TV always undersells the true speed of racing.

But new footage shot from trackside at a NASCAR event gives viewers a perfect insight into how fast these cars actually move.

Shot from midway along the straight at US speedway, the video shows a string of cars blur past at more than 300km/h while a photographer stands snapping stills of the action.

The noise of the engines is piercing, but it's the blink and you'll miss it speed that shows why the sport is so popular in the US, not to mention why the crashes are so spectacular.

As the video uploader puts it: "It's always louder, more scary, and way more asphalt in your face than you can imagine or think it'd be."

And thanks to this footage we can all get a perfect idea of what the uploader means without going to a track.
