The Spaniard, who won the F1 world championship in 2005 and 2006 but is currently at struggling McLaren, interchanged with Kazuki Nakajima and Sebastien Buemi in the Toyota TS050 Hybrid to take the title on his Le Mans debut.

Alonso, 36, is bidding to seal motor sport's triple crown by winning F1's Monaco Grand Prix, Le Mans and the Indianapolis 500.
