NASCAR driver Martin Truex Jr saved from fire by his own car
No, it’s not the year 2100, but there are race cars that put out their own fires.
NASCAR driver Martin Truex Jr looked to be in a spot of bother on Sunday when the engine of his car caught on fire during the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis.
But thanks to the two fire repellent systems all NASCARs have, the fire was quickly extinguished.
In this care Truex Jr activated a driver-controlled extinguisher system near the driver’s seat. The chemicals released quickly put the fire out.
The second system in all cars is a heat-activated system placed next to the fuel cell in the rear of the car.
While accidents, and sadly injuries and deaths, are set to continue due the inherent danger associated with motor sport, it is good to see that everything is being done to make the sport as safe as possible.
