Supercars team Triple Eight to expand to three cars after signing 'exciting' deal

Triple Eight Race Engineering will expand to three cars for next season after signing a two-year deal with SCT Motorsport which will see Triple Eight build, manage and race an SCT Motorsport entry for the 2026 and 2027 Supercars seasons. 

SCT Motorsport currently fields a fourth entry at Brad Jones Racing (BJR), a partnership established in 2020 after SCT Logistics owner Pete Smith purchased a racing entitlements contract. The seat was initially held by his son Jack Smith until 2023, before Jaxon Evans took over for the 2024 and 2025 seasons. 

The move will see the SCT car move to Triple Eight, reducing the Brad Jones Racing squad from four cars back to three and the number of Supras on the grid next year to five instead of the expected six along with 11 Mustangs and eight Camaros.

SCT Motorsport lead Andrew Jones said joining Triple Eight was an easy decision to make. 

"Partnering with Triple Eight provides an amazing opportunity for SCT Motorsport to achieve the success that we set at the beginning of the journey in Supercars and continue the growth of the program that has been built over the past five years," Jones said.

Jamie Whincup, managing director at Triple Eight, says he's thrilled to expand to three cars again, which marks the first time since 2018 that the team has run three entries, a year which saw himself, Craig Lowndes and Shane Van Gisbergen all fielded in Triple Eight cars.
