'Won't need to put up with me next year': Broc Feeney's joke after F1 test drive caps 'tough' 24 hours

In a whirlwind 24 hours, Broc Feeney went from Supercars Championship heartbreak to piloting a Formula 1 car, only to cap it all off by sweeping honours voted on by fans and officials.
Despite suggesting he would be "flying under the radar" and would not be heard from for a while following Sunday's race in Adelaide, Feeney was required on stage three times during the Supercars Gala Awards on Monday night.
Earlier on Monday, Feeney and Red Bull Ampol Racing teammate Will Brown test-drove the 2011-specification Red Bull Racing RB7 F1 car at The Bend Motorsport Park. The car had featured at the Adelaide Grand Final round.

The special test was supposed to mark a championship win. Instead, it served as a welcome distraction for the 23-year-old, whose title bid ended when Walkinshaw Andretti United driver Ryan Wood tagged him on the opening lap of the championship decider, sending him into the wall.

This outcome allowed Wood's teammate Chaz Mostert to leapfrog Feeney in the standings and clinch his maiden title.
The outing was part of a larger Red Bull F1 and Supercars car swap, which also included former F1 drivers Brendon Hartley and Scott Speed.
The event will be showcased in an upcoming video.
Though a closely guarded secret, Feeney told attendees at the Supercars Gala the opportunity served as a personal highlight immediately following his devastating defeat.
He also joked that his performance in the F1 car was good enough for a Red Bull Racing call-up.
"It was pretty cool. (Red Bull advisor) Dr Helmut Marko just called me before, so you won't need to put up with me next year," he said.

"It was unreal. My neck is a little bit sore, but it was a lot of fun and so fast.
"I'm sure for all of us in here, we dream of driving an F1 car one day, and I never thought that day would come true, so thanks to Red Bull for making that happen.
"That's something that I'll never forget for the rest of my life. It's been a pretty tough 24 hours, but it certainly put a smile on my face."
The youngster was honoured as the winner of the Sprint Cup, the fan-voted Barry Sheene Medal, and the Jim Richards Award, which is determined by officials.
Feeney came out firing this year, looking to rebound after Brown beat him to the 2024 crown.
In facing another title loss, he paid tribute to the exceptional strength of his team.

"It is tough at the end of the year, always going, 'There's always next year'," he said.
"You've got to keep coming back and trying to be stronger, and I felt like I made a huge jump this year and tried to leave no stone unturned.
"I think the work ethic that the #88 crew puts in and the whole of Red Bull Ampol Racing it's something that I'm so proud to be a part of.
"A few people have touched on it, but the way my team's conducted themselves over the past 24 hours, I'm just so proud to be a part of this group of people."
Feeney joined Triple Eight in 2021, winning the Super2 Series before graduating to the Supercars Championship the following season.
In his gala speech, he also publicly confirmed his long-term commitment to the team that launched his Supercars career.
"Coming in as a young guy, I want to be surrounded by people that I look up to and want to grow up and be like.
"I'm so proud to be a part of Red Bull Ampol Racing, and I've no doubt I'll be sticking with them for the rest of my life."
