Spectators get way too close at rally race

Rally spectators have proven to be more audacious than the drivers themselves, risking their safety for the perfect viewpoint.

Amateur video from the LOTUS Rally Poland shows Estonian driver Ott Tanak getting huge air over a crest at incredible speed while hundreds of adrenalin-seeking spectators jam up against barriers to get the perfect view.

The car appears to skew sideways in the air and land at an angle aimed at spectators leaning in for a good photo opportunity.

Luckily, the skilled driver expertly realigns his Ford Fiesta despite the pressure of avoiding fans' flailing limbs less than a metre away.

Some crazed fans even hang over the track with selfie sticks to get the ultimate in close-up footage.

While risky, the footage makes for a great watch.

Tanak finished third in the event.
