Rider crashes trying to escape wave

A motorcyclist has escaped serious injury after crashing over the top of his handlebars while trying to escape an incoming wave on a deserted beach.

The unidentified rider was trailing three other motorcyclists when the breaking wave forced him to find higher ground.

In footage captured on the helmet's camera, the rider speeds up and veers to his right to escape the frothing surf but finds himself trapped between the water and a metre high sand wall.

With nowhere to go, the bike's front wheel gets stuck in the wet sand, flipping the rider over the bars and into the water.

The video ends with an unidentified voice asking: "All good? Is everyone sweet?"
