Astonishing crash sends Brendon Pingel somersaulting

Aussie Racing Cars title contender Brendon Pingel was lucky to walk away from a crash that sent his car somersaulting through the air at Queensland Raceway today.

The defending champion was tipped in the first corner of the third race of the meet and he and his car were sent airborne.

Yet the crash was somewhat strange when as soon as the car started flipping it lost forward momentum, but continued to spin and bounce in the same spot.

It wasn't even the only accident on the day with Jason Heck rolling his car at about 250kph during the Kumho V8 Touring Carrace earlier.

Heck’s ex-Ford Performance Racing Falcon was launched into multiple rolls as a result of glancing blow from Michael Caine on the first lap of the opening Kumho race.

Both drivers walked away from their crashes without any major injuries.
