Drag racer Daniel Miocevich survives spectacular 440km/h crash in Perth

Most mere mortals couldn't contemplate driving a car at speeds of 440km/h let alone crashing one.

That's the situation Daniel Miocevich found himself in during a drag racing event in Perth.

Miocevich who celebrated his birthday on April 8, was lining up his dragster named 'Aftershock' for the WA Drag Racing Grand Final at the Perth Motorplex.

The timing system clocked his quarter mile pass at 5.49 seconds at 440km/h but shortly before the finish line his dragster turned right and was soon out of control.

Lucky for Miocevich the parachutes activated and helped his dragster slow down as it travelled into and over the braking area wall.

It slid along the wall for about 100 metres before coming off and rolling over a couple of times until it came to a complete stop.

Amazingly, Miocevich climbed out of his dragster as the safety vehicle sped towards him to check he wasn't injured.

He was taken to an on-site medical centre but walked out shortly afterwards without even a scratch to show for it.

Miocevich's father Gary, who passed away in 2015, helped build the Perth Motorplex and some say he was still keeping an eye out for his son on his birthday.
