Assault charges behind driver's mystery absence as NASCAR unleashes ban
NASCAR has banned Cup Series driver Cody Ware after he was charged with assault on Monday.
Prior to the most recent round of the series at Bristol Motor Speedway, it was announced Ware would miss the event due to a "personal matter".
Now it's been confirmed the 27-year-old has been charged with assault by strangulation inflicting serious injury and an assault on a female. Ware's bond was set at $4500.

Ware made his NASCAR Cup Series debut in 2017 and has raced full-time for his father's team, Rick Ware Racing, since 2021.

"We are aware of the incident regarding Cody Ware and his indefinite suspension from NASCAR competition," a statement from Rick Ware Racing read.
"We understand NASCAR's position on this matter and accept their decision.
"The matter is still under investigation and Cody is fully cooperating with the authorities, as due process takes its course."
Rick Ware Racing confirmed a replacement driver will be announced in due course.

Ware was replaced by Matt Crafton at Bristol Motor Speedway, who has twice won the third-tier truck series.
"RWR is committed to continuing our multi-car efforts in the NASCAR Cup Series and is in the process of finalizing our plans for the No.51 entry at Martinsville Speedway, and beyond.
"These plans will be announced in the coming days."
North Carolina-born Ware has nearly 100 starts in the NASCAR Cup Series with just one top 10 finish, claiming sixth at Daytona International Speedway.
The NASCAR Cup Series continues on Monday, April 17 at Martinsville Speedway.
