It was a hilarious sight that had fans at Assen rubbing their eyes in disbelief.

Two-time MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez speeding through pit-lane on a scooter in a desperate attempt to rescue a qualifying session for the Dutch TT that had come unstuck when he crashed.

After coming off his bike at the top of the circuit and with the threat of starting from the back of the grid if he did not complete a lap, the Spaniard was forced to improvise a method of quickly getting back to the pits to jump on a replacement bike.

Footage shows him sprinting from the sand trap and after checking with the owner of the scooter, jumping on it, putting his visor down and using it to dash, albeit at a lower speeds than he’s used to, back to the pits.

It all paid off for Marquez, who managed to qualify fourth after making it back to his replacement bike at the team garage.

In the race itself, Marquez finished second behind Australian Jack Miller, who survived the treacherous conditions to win his maiden MotoGP race.
