Endurance racer continues after crash repair of the year

Powered by

A race driver has his team to thank for delivering the repair of the year to allow him to continue competing in a 24 Hour LeMons endurance race after rear-ending a rival car.

Driving in the LeMons' Arse-Freeze-Apalooza event, all hope of completing the race looked to be over when the Hella Shitty team's diesel Porsche slammed into a Miata after coming over the crest of a hill on the Sonoma Raceway in California.

The crash virtually oblitered the front end of the Porsche and sent the Miata spinning before it was struck by another racer.

And while all hope of continuing appeared to be lost for the Porsche, the Hella Shitty Racing team performed a repair miracle to get the car back onto the track and racing after just two-and-a-half hours.

In an inspiration piece mechanical and smash repair work, the front end was ripped apart and the kinks bashed before it was all hastily cobbled back together.

The car looked like an automotive version of a patchwork quilt, but was ultimately passed fit to continue in the two-day race and earned the team one of LeMons' least wanted but most deserved awards: Most Heroic Fix.
