Formula One: Williams clock record time with slick pit stop

Are you watching Red Bull? This is how you perform a potential race-winning pit stop.

The Williams team showed their rivals how slick a mid-race pit stop can be after they equalled the fastest pits stop ever clocked in Formula One.

Driver Felipe Massa barely had time to take his foot off the pedal before he was waved back into that action at the European Grand Prix after his team changed all four tyres in an eye-popping 1.92 seconds.

The pit lane blitz not only set a record for the inaugural Azerbaijan race but matched the previous best in the sport set by former Red Bull driver Mark Webber in 2013.

Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo must be lamenting the fall from grace those title-clinching days after having his chances of a first win of the season cruelled by his bungling crew at the Monaco Grand Prix.

Ricciardo had the famous race in his control when he came into the pits only to find his team weren’t prepared for the stop – leaving the change of tyres lying in the back of the garage.

The calamitous stop allowed reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton to move into the lead and steal the win.
