A motorsport crew member escaped with a sprain and a concussion after being mowed down in the pit lane by a rival car during an endurance race in the US.

Footage of the annual 12 Hours of Sebring in Florida captured the near-fatal moment when two cars jostled for position after coming in for fresh tyres and fuel.

The BAR1 Motorsport car and its rival Krohn Racing entry were side by side when they passed the garage of Fifty Plus Racing, where a number of crew were working on their car.

Unbelievably, the BAR1 car collects a Fifty Plus Racing member as it races past, bowling the man over and dragging him down pit lane.

The accident left the man needing medical attention where it was diagnosed he had suffered a sprain and a concussion. However he returned to the track later in the race.

The BAR1 entry was given a drive-thru penalty – labelled a pit traffic violation – for the incident.
